Chocolate Dirt Pudding (Printable Version)

Creamy chocolate pudding layered with crushed cookies and gummy worms for a whimsical no-bake treat.

# What You Need:

→ Pudding Layer

01 - 1 package (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
02 - 2 cups cold milk
03 - 1 cup whipped topping, thawed

→ Cookie Dirt

04 - 18 chocolate sandwich cookies, finely crushed

→ Decorations

05 - 12 gummy worms

# How-To Steps:

01 - Whisk together instant chocolate pudding mix and cold milk in a large mixing bowl for 2 minutes until mixture thickens.
02 - Gently fold whipped topping into pudding mixture until fully incorporated and smooth.
03 - Crush chocolate sandwich cookies using a food processor or by placing in a zip-top bag and rolling with a rolling pin until fine crumbs resemble dirt texture.
04 - Spoon cookie crumbs into bottom of 6 serving cups. Add chocolate pudding mixture on top. Repeat layers, finishing with generous cookie crumb topping to completely cover pudding.
05 - Decorate each cup with 2 gummy worms, pressing them partially into the dirt so they appear to crawl out.
06 - Refrigerate assembled cups for at least 1 hour to set and achieve optimal texture before serving.

# Helpful Tips:

01 -
  • No oven required means you can throw it together even on the hottest summer days
  • The layered presentation looks impressive but takes just twenty minutes from start to finish
  • Something about that combination of creamy pudding and crunchy chocolate crumbs is utterly addictive
02 -
  • The cookie layer needs to be thick enough that you cannot see any pudding through it or the dirt effect falls flat
  • Fold the whipped topping in gently instead of vigorously mixing or the pudding will lose its light fluffy texture
  • These need at least an hour in the fridge but can be made up to a day ahead which actually makes them even better
03 -
  • Push a chopstick or skewer down the side of each cup after layering to release any air bubbles
  • Use a small funnel when adding the cookie dirt to keep the edges of your serving cups clean
